We want a future where justice is equal to everyone

Our Kaupapa

The Free Legal Clinics Project was born out of a vision to transform access to justice, recognizing the critical need for legal support that is both accessible and culturally sensitive. Spearheaded by Keegan Jones, a Ngāti Hine lawyer, this initiative seeks to create a revolutionary space where individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly Māori and marginalised communities, feel valued, respected, and truly understood.

Empowering Communities

Rooted in the principles of manaakitanga (hospitality and care) and whanaungatanga (relationships and connections), the project aims to provide more than just legal assistance. It strives to empower communities, foster meaningful partnerships with local organizations and iwi, and effect transformative change.

The project, with a deep understanding of the disparities within the legal system and society at large, envisions a future characterised by equity and fairness. We are dedicated to breaking down systemic barriers, amplifying marginalised voices, and paving the way for a future where justice is equal to everyone.

Keegan Jones
Chairman & Founder

As a young Māori lawyer, Keegan is acutely aware of the disparities within the legal system and society at large. By creating the Free Legal Clinics Project, he envisions a future where justice is equitable and accessible to all. By providing immediate assistance and fostering community empowerment, the project strives to break cycles of injustice and build trust in institutions.

In recognition of his efforts, Keegan was honoured to receive the UC Young Alumni Award in 2023 and to be recognised as a Semi Finalist for Young New Zealander of the Year 2024.
